Small Scares: Ten Picture Books for Halloween

With Halloween creeping around the corner, I’ve been craving books that evoke the season. And while I most books ghastly and ghostly—if it makes me think twice before turning the lights out before bed, it’s my kind of book—it’s also nice to settle in with something a little lighter on the macabre.

Fortunately, there are a ton of amazing picture books featuring ghosts, pumpkins, costumes, candy (of course), and more. Short, sweet-ish, and with just a touch of autumnal magic, they’re perfect for getting in the Halloween spirit. For this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, here are ten of my favorites.

  13. I can’t handle anything too scary, so these are about my speed. Ha ha. The only one I’ve heard of is VAMPIRINA BALLERINA, which I used to read to my youngest daughter all the time. It’s a fun one.

    Happy TTT!

    1. The illustrations for Ghosts in the House are amazing. I love her style. And I totally understand that about Mothman Baby! The story of Mothman is pretty terrifying, but this book made me laugh a lot.
