It Was a Dark and Stormy Year: Ten Cozy Mysteries for 2021

It’s too early to tell if 2021 is on track to be a better year than 2020—after all, the pessimist that occasionally roams through my brain like it’s Grand Central Station suggests things can always get worse. However, there’s maybe one arena where this year will have a hard besting 2020: great new books. Last year, it felt like there was a five-star reading lurking around every corner and, while that might be hard to top, that’s not stopping authors from trying. So for this Top Ten Tuesday, I’m highlighting ten of these releases—all cozy mysteries—that I’m greatly looking forward to.

  1. I’ve never read from the cozy mystery genre, but I’ve had some family members love the books so I’ll definitely be picking one up this year! Arsenic and Adobo is one I’m excited about too!

  2. Omg, all of these look amazing! Ever since reading my first cosy last year I’ve been wanting to read more and still haven’t got around to them. I seriously love all these titles and covers. Food, animals, murder, FUN! 😂 Haha I hope you enjoy all of these!

  3. Books were about the only good thing of 2020! Let’s hope 2021 is at least as good. These look good. The Broken Spine sounds fun and Fried Rice will probably make me hungry!

    A Game of Cones 🙂

I like Ellery Adams’ Paperback Parlor mysteries too.

  4. I looked at so many of these as I was drafting my list. I would read all of them. Hope you get a chance to tackle all of these.

Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog.

  5. I’m not a big mystery reader but I like an occasional cozy or verging on cozy, especially the bookstore or library ones! I like G.M. Malliet, and Leslie Meier moved to our town from Maine, so I’m trying to catch up on all of her Lucy Stone series.

  6. I used to read a lot of cozy mysteries when I chose all of my books from the “new books” shelf at my local library. One of the librarians must have been a big fan. But I’ve lost track of them since I rarely wander the stacks any more. (When your library is only open after you get off from work one night per week and all the parking is taken by Scout troop parents attending meetings, that happens). I need to make an effort to start downloading more of them from the digital library. I hope you get to read these soon!

    1. That’s rough not having a library that’s as accessible to your schedule. Public libraries are a major reason I got into reading cozies in the first place. There’s something about those covers that pulled me in! Hopefully you’re able to find a few ebook cozies to get lost in soon.

  7. I’m not a huge mystery reader, so I had never read a cozy mystery until I (accidently) found the Magic and Mystery paranormal series last year. I liked those well enough, so I might try to explore the genre a bit more. I think something like The Broken Spine is exactly what I’d be looking for! I’ll have to check more into some of the others too as several of the covers caught my eye. I hope you enjoy all of these when you’re able to read them!

  9. I am trying so hard to stop adding to my TBR, then I read a post like this. Thanks Christopher, so many new series too. I have a couple of these on my TBR already, but will be adding more. 💜😁

  10. I don’t think I’ve ever actually read a cozy mystery! XD But those titles and covers make me want to pick one up. Maybe I’ll do that this year.

Such a fun list idea for this week! 🙂

  11. I’ve never read a cozy mystery, but I’ve been wanting to. I think 2021 needs to be the year! Now the hard part is which one to choose first! 😉
