A Spooky First Line Friday

It’s officially October, and that means I’m starting a month devoted to books filled with magic, monsters, mayhem, and … Well, to be perfectly honest, I’m a bit of a mood reader, so there’ll also be romance and passion and … realistically, a Christmas-focused read or two will sneak into the mix. However, when I am in the mood for a spooky read, I’ll have plenty of choices. For this week’s First Line Friday, I’m sharing one of those reads—a book that matches the macabre with an equal side of cute.

It was a dark and gloomy Wednesday night in Nocturnia. Countess Frivoleeta Fang sipped her Scream Tea and tapped the dining-room table with her long black fingernails as the clock struck four a.m.

“Drake, my darkness, you do know it’s our annual Barbaric Ball in just three nights?” Countess Frivoleeta cooed. “We still have invitations to send, catering to sort out and—oh, did you book the Howling Wolf Band?”

Count Drake’s eyes widened. “Erm…I’ll phone them tonight, dearest rat brains.”
