Bed, Breakfast, and a Little Murder: Ten Mysteries

Choosing a cozy series can be hard simply because there are so many of them—where do you start? One of the easiest ways to settle on one is to find one in a niche you enjoy. Most series latch onto a hook for their detectives—a job, a holiday, a theme—that’s heavily represented and directs many of the subplots. Quilting. Baking. Camping. Toy collecting. Librarians. Teachers. Food critics. The entire country of Ireland. Name it and there’s probably a cozy based around it.

One of my favorite is the good ole bed and breakfast. After all, cozy mysteries feature murder and mayhem, but another key component appears right in the genre classification: they’re cozy. Under the macabre premise of an amateur sleuth unmasking killers lies tight-knit communities that, if the murder rates weren’t so high, would be downright charming to live in.

A proprietor caught between a busy job and a tempting mystery, guests with secrets, gorgeous homes with danger lurking in every room. What could be cozier?

Below are a few of my favorite cozies that tackle the bed and breakfast theme. Same as last week, I couldn’t narrow down my selections for a Top Ten Tuesday, so here’s a Top Eleven Tuesday instead. But really, who couldn’t use an extra cozy read right now?
